But uninstalling the software? Without telling me?Īnd then, to make matters worse it sounds like they take the right to uninstall software that they think is pirated?! Seriously? Microsoft doesn't have a particularly good track record in determining if software is original or pirated, I know from experience with a perfectly legal Windows copy. And that it tells me "hey, I can do it for you if you want". Jesus Christ, what is wrong with Microsoft? I don't mind if the update tells me that problems with apps I have installed are common, and that I should uninstall or update them so that my system runs smoothly. Windows 10's fall update is deactivating certain apps without asking | GamesBeat | Games | by Jeff Grubb On that sort of hardware I could easily install Windows 10, and it would probably work rather well. She was supposed to buy a new computer, even though the old one still works (somehow it has problems booting now, OS X only starts once after it was installed, after that it gets stuck right before the log in screen). Some occasional security fixes came after that, but those have gotten less (despite there being holes everywhere), and less and less software still runs on the computer. It's a 2006 model, support ended in 2011. My mother has a Mac, which is not supported by Apple anymore. Here's hoping that one of the future Windows 10 updates brings back some sense.Īpple very much has an "our way or the highway" policy. Let alone much much harder (though not impossible) to select what you don't want. Even just from a design standpoint it's a step back, making it harder to see what needs to be updated and what has already been installed. It feels like a massive step down from Windows 7, which had a much clearer, easier to manage interface. And I am not a big fan of the Windows 10 update policy and interface myself. But yes, sometimes, despite all precautions, something may break. Updates are rolled out in waves, so that not everyone has to be a guinea pig. are a problem not just for themselves but also for others who get affected, attacked by their infected computers, so it makes sense to enforce constant updates. People who never update their computer, as in security fixes etc. Windows XP really should not be used anymore, and I guess they are afraid of letting another XP happen. It is true that Microsoft would much rather have you all use Windows 10, for various reasons. Why would they even hide your photos? Where did you place them in the first place? It all sounds very, very odd, more details would be interesting. ![]() I would also very much doubt that MS would do that, they can't afford such a screw up. Who would have thought that we are so much in agreement one of these days? Maybe they fully understand it's you at the other end, though, because they're watching through the webcam on your laptop. I'm not a fan of the Evil Empire, but if this was true it should have happened to the rest of us, right? I would have thought a webmaster would know better, too. I very much doubt that M$ deliberately destroyed half your photos, Fenwoodian. ![]() I would not be surprised if these destructive Windows 7 automatic upgrades keep coming in the future as MS's way of forcing us to upgrade to Windows 10. I would not be surprised if MicroSoft did this on purpose to help convince us Windows 10 upgrade holdouts to upgrade. Luckily I was able to find these hidden files and unhide them. After spending about 5 or 6 hours fixing the mess, I was able to determine that after this recent Windows 7 upgrade, MicroSoft had "hidden" most of my photo files. I lost about half of the photo files that I had on it. Well, they updated my Windows 7 about a week ago and it about destroyed my computer.
